A USEFUL GHOST
Director: Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke | Year: 2025 | Rating: Unclassified 18+ | Runtime: 130 mins Country: Thailand | Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Arthouse | Language: Thai with English subtitles
This debut film from Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke is a genre-bending tale of love, loss, and working-class resistance.
After dying of dust poisoning, Nat’s (Davika Hoorne) ghost possesses a vacuum cleaner and tries to rekindle her relationship with her grief-stricken husband, March (Wisarut Himmarat). But March’s family never liked Nat in life—let alone as a household appliance. To win them over, she takes on restless spirits haunting their factory’s machines.
Alongside this is the tale of a repair guy (Wanlop Rungkumjud) who shows up at the door of a self-declared “Academic Ladyboy” (Wisarut Homhuan) to fix another possessed vacuum.
The intertwining stories and unimaginable turn of events reveal complex layers and deeper context beneath the setting dust. Don’t let the breathtaking images fool you. There is more than what meets the eye.
